There are 2 specialised clinics at the WCRC, namely seating clinics and hand clinics.

Hand Clinics


Purpose of these clinics:

  • Determining diagnoses and prognoses of clients with hand or elbow complications that affect his/her functional ability.
  • Candidates for possible surgical intervention are identified.
  • Need for and type of treatment required is discussed.

Target group:
Any client with hand or elbow complications that affect his/her functional ability.
Services are provided by an occupational therapist, a physiotherapist, both from WCRC and the attending physician, Dr Solomons, hand surgeon at Groote Schuur- and Vincent Palotti Hospitals

Venue:
All clinics are held at OPD, WCRC.
Frequency: Once every 2 months

Seating Clinics


Purpose of these clinics:

  • Specialist referral centre for clients with special seating needs within the Western Cape.
  • Implement corrective seating to improve / prevent the development of secondary complications resulting from incorrect seating postures.
  • Follow-up service for high -risk clients who have been discharged from WCRC in-patient rehabilitation, to monitor high- risk areas to prevent secondary complications from developing.
  • Make alterations to seating systems as is required due to growth (children), progressive disorders or post corrective spinal-surgery.
